How to Get Ready for your Upcoming Semester
Updated: Oct 18, 2019

Feeling excited about your upcoming semester? Well, make sure you're prepared, organized, and well-slept before you begin your next chapter. It is easier said than done. So, here are a few pointers to make sure you are “most defiantly” ready.
Shop for different phone plans
There are a variety of phone plans that range from monthly to yearly contracts available for purchase in Quebec. There is also the option to "pay as you go" which is a cell phone plan where you only pay for what you use until you run out. Don't be afraid to shop around before making your final decision.
Buying and organizing your school supplies
Make sure to organize yourself and buy required school supplies before classes start. This way you will be ready to learn and not feel behind. One of the cheapest places to buy supplies is Dollarama which offers everything from pens to mini whiteboards. If you don’t know what you might need check your course syllabus.
Obtain a student metro pass
Depending on where you live in the city you may need a metro pass to commute to your college. The STM offers discounted rates for most students in Quebec. To qualify for the discounted rate, read what you must have before hand: http://www.stm.info/en/info/fares/opus-cards-and-other-fare-media/opus-reduced-fare-students
Getting to know your community
This can be anything from walking around your local neighbourhood, browsing your school’s Facebook page, or attending local events. All of which can help you to get to know your local surroundings.
Walk through the campus
Take one day to walk through the campus before the start of the semester to get familiar with your classrooms, cafeteria, and library. Additionally, this day can be used to estimate the travel time to college and an opportunity to set up meetings with professors.
