5 Best Study Tips

Updated: Oct 18, 2019

For some students, there is no endeavor more frustrating or challenging than studying for a test. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered with the 5 best study tips to help you ace your next test!

This tip may seem obvious, but it deserves to be mentioned regardless; giving yourself enough time to study is absolutely essential. In other words, it is unwise to wait until the last possible moment, such as the night before the test. In advance of the test, we recommend that you write down the dates of your upcoming tests and organize yourself accordingly based on your familiarity with the material.

Also, it should be noted that everyone is different – some students work better in the morning, while others work best at night. For this reason, we suggest that you create a study schedule that works in tandem with your productivity. Be careful, though; don’t schedule your study session too late, lest you be too tired to study.

Students are only as productive as their study space allows them to be! For some, a study space is an intimate coffee shop. For others, nothing stimulates productivity like the great outdoors. Regardless of your preferences, know that your study space should be comfortable, spacious, tidy and, naturally, devoid of distractions.

There is an abundance of ways for students to test their knowledge beyond mere memorization. For one, practice questions are exceptionally useful for adjusting to the format of a test, or for helping you realize which topics must be prioritized. Also, verbally explaining concepts to fellow students or friends can also help solidify the knowledge obtained through studying.

Surprisingly, studying can be a collaborative effort, as your fellow students represent one of your most valuable resources! These students can assist you with concepts you are unsure of, and vice-versa. Just be sure to stay focused on the topic at hand!

Contrary to popular beliefs, cramming can actually be counterproductive. In fact, taking breaks is necessary for the retention of study material. So, don’t feel bad about taking the time to go for a walk or to occasionally watch an episode of your favorite television show, as studying too long without a break can decrease your performance. Likewise, stay hydrated and nourished to remain focused, motivated, and productive!

And there you have it! Stick with these tips, and your chances at succeeding on your next test will be significantly increased! Best of luck!
